   Welcome

Welcome to Heart's Delight!
Updated July 31, 2010

Message from Lorraine:

It's been a fairly quiet summer so far which has given me more time to spend with my Heart's Delight, my grandson - and of course we're all busy dodging the storms and trying to get in a little sun between raindrops - I'm not sure where we live anymore - it used to be warm and dry here and now its wet and humid - hmmm?

Summer classes on Monday evenings and Wednesday mornings have been going along very well with many of the ladies being able to finish up projects and work on those long overdue "UFO's".

Last weekend the gals had a lot of fun painting their Adirondack chairs.  They are spectacular - and now someone has suggested this design would look outstanding on a gate.  Now that's an interesting idea.  I have to admit it was lots of work getting the basecoating done (the background, 25 flowers and many more leaves - yikes) but it was totally worth it!

This is just the back.  The arms are also full of flowers and the overall effect is fabulous.
Here's what the next little while looks like:
  • Monday, August 2nd - Ornament Day.  Some of the ladies are working on ornaments- new and old - and some are working on gifts for Christmas.
  • Monday evening classes will run on the 9th, 23rd and 30th - 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday morning classes are on August 4th and 25th - 9 - noon
  • Saturday, August 28th - Zinnia table class from 9-4 at a cost of $42 plus your surface.  I've attached a copy of my piece but the original is done on a D-Table or half circle.  A  couple of the ladies have been shopping at the antique market on 103 Street and 81st Avenue.  I believe there are two close together but one booth has older style painted furniture with interesting legs, etc., at reasonable prices so we will be working on a variety of tables and chairs (at least one chair is for a child and is really charming).  The prep for this piece will be to base the legs white and the flat surfaces Lamp Black or a dark color of your choice.  Most everyone is doing the flowers but one little boy will be getting his own funky chair that has bugs, geckos, etc.  Prep for this one is pretty easy - give your surface a light sanding followed by a couple of coats of All Purpose Sealer.  Let it dry overnight and then paint the legs (spindles) white and the flat surfaces black or a dark color of your choice.

Paint in Alberta is just ahead - September 9 - 12 in Calgary.  I have catalogues in the studio if you'd like one to peruse as you sit in your comfy chairs or on your decks - I'll have a supply out on the large table so please pick one up while you're here or give me a call or email and I'll pop one in the mail to you, or you can go to the link www.c2cevents.com and click on Paint in Alberta 2010.

I don't have the schedule up for fall classes yet, except for "If the Broom Fits, Ride It" by Holly Hanley.  I've slotted this one in on Saturday, September 25th but am flexible.  I know a few gals have this wood and some would rather do it on a regular class day.  If this is a piece you're interested in then please let me know if the 25th does not work for you.

Other classes that will run on either a Thursday or a Saturday are:
  • Wood Bracelets - I have Pentagon, Flat and Dome bangles coming in various sizes so shapes and designs will be your choice - these should run around $6-7 so would make inexpensive gifts.  Also look for new designs for these bangles at Paint in Alberta.
  •
  • Ros Stallcop Bamboo - done on canvas I find this very appealing and am looking forward to doing it myself.
  •
  • The Refrain - Echinacea flowers - a few of the Thursday gals have already done this and its spectacular - a definite "do again".  Linda Lock did it on one large canvas but these creative gals have split the design and done it on two - one larger than the other.

  • Yellow Poppies - can we ever get enough poppies - this one is on canvas as well and just feels like a summer day.

  • Birds on a clothesline - sorry this isn't a good photo - I need to paint it so I can give you a good image but it is a Shirley Koenig design and is wonderful.  It has a really intersting background and these little birds have attitude.  Several ladies are doing this on 8x16  canvas for their laundry rooms - I will be doing it on a rustic wooden basket that I just love.
New stock is arriving daily for Paint in Alberta so come by the studio if you get a chance to see "what's up" at Heart's Delight.

Other things happening in the painting world:

  • August 9 - 14 - HOOT - Heart of Ohio Painting Convention in Columbus, Ohio - there are several people going from the Edmonton area.
  • Sept. 9 – 12, 2010 Paint in Alberta, Calgary, AB I'm submitting to teach at this convention and will be sharing a booth with Doxie Keller – she's lots of fun to take a class from so register early once the program book is out – likely around April 2010.
  • Sept. 22 – 27, 2010 Northwest Toleliners Painting Convention, Seattle, Washington
  • February 27 - March , 2011 - Creative Painting in Vegas - the catalogue is up on their website.
Well I think that's all for now.  Please feel free to join us on a Monday or Wednesday anytime (per the schedule above) and then regularly on Monday or Tuesday evenings or Wednesday or Thursday mornings after Paint in Alberta in September.
